NGAIRE ROAD BOARD.

A special -meeting of the - Board was called for 2 p.m. yesterday, to consider the Foreman of Works' report as to the works most urgently required, in order to give settlers access to their holdings. After waiting for nearly an hour for a fourth commissioner to make up a quorum, and after a messenger had returned from an exploring expedition in search of Mr. Mabey, it was decided to consider the recommendations made by Mr. Twigg, and appropriate money fox the works, subject to the approval of 'the Land Board, it being the general opinion that the full board, who will meet the first Monday in February, would- ratify whatever was done by those present. This course was decided upon, as the summer was now far advanced, and therefore it was thought desirable to lose no time in proceeding with the works. There were present at the appointed time, — Messrs. Southey (chairman), Quin, and • Hawke. Mr. Twigg, the foreman of works, and Mr. McCutchan, the newlyappointed secretary, were also in attendance.

MONEY AVAILABLE.

The Chairman read a letter which he had received last month from Mr. Wray, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, showing the amount of deferred payment money available on the different blocks,; as follows: —

It was explained that the above amount did not include any proportion of the halfyearly deferred payment instalments which have been paid during the preseut ■ month; and it was, therefore, anticipated that the board would shortly have about double the above amount available for road works. APPROPRIATIONS. After careful consideration, it was decided to appropriate the following sums for the different roads, as numbered below: —

As the Board has not yet a plan show-

ing, {he names of the roads, Mr. Twigg Numbered the roads, commencing at the one on Block X., and going on towards Stratford, as the cross roads have been formed. Steps will be taken to have the names put on the new map executed by Mr. McCutchan before the next meeting of the board takes place. The clerk was instructed to write to the , Land Board, asking permission for the money to be expended on the different roads, as voted by those present?. This concluded the business, and the meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
