ENDOWMENTS FOR OPUNAKE.

We have much pleasure in publishing the following letter sent by the Minister of Lands to Mr. S. A. Breach, chairman of the public meeting recently held in Opunake i—

. " General Survey Oißce, " Wellington, January 13, 1881. " Sib, — Major Atkinson has handed to me your telegram of the 6th instant, m which you urge upon the Government the necessity of making endowments for Opunake similar to those granted for Manaia, together with a further grant for the construction of a jetty. " In reply, I have to inform you that reserves will be made fat municipal -endowments, and for the other purposes for which reserves have been made at Manaia, before any further sales take place, and that -pending further consideration of the subject, I have given instructions for withholding certain lands from sale for harbour purposes. I may mention especially reserve No. 34, on the beach. — I have, &c,
