The reason for Mr. Bryce's resignation is that his colleagues were averse to his proposal for a military advance on Parihaka on the occasion of the monthly m eting there on the 17th, and to arrest Te Whiti. Mr. Bryce's ultimatum was to carry out his views or accept his resignation. The other Ministers declined taking such strong measures, fearing a collision, and hence Mr. Bryce's resignation.

So far as returns have been made for the past nine months, they show that the colonial revenue for the year ending the 31st March next will come fully up to the Treasurer's estimate, and will probably exceed it. The railways are likely to be : under the estimate.
