MANAIA TILLAGE SETTLEMENT.

There was a large crowd at Wednesday's sale, which concluded the Becond series. Previous to the drawing, the Commissioner stated that it appeared to Him that a good many did not intend to settle upon the laud, and that they were merely endeavoring to get it for speculation purposes. He warned any such persons that they would not find it such an «asy matter to transfer their sections as they might imagine, and those who made a false declaration were liable to two j-eara' imprisonment. The lottery was conducted on the Otago principle, as was the case at the first sale. Double the quantity of tickets, numbered consecutively from one upwards, as compared with the number of applicants, was placed in a box, and the applicant drawing the highest number was declared the purchaser.
