THE HAWERA INSTITUTE.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE STAR. Sir, — I extremely regret to bear of the financial embarrassment of the committee of this institute. I would suggest, by Way of obviating this, and make the thing selfsupporting, that there ought to be a small charge made for the Use of reading-room, say ss. perannumn; and for use of library and readmg-room, IDs. per annuiim,} in feet, initiate, in a modified iorm, tlie system adopted by mechanic institutes in England. The committee would soon get tired of canvassing the district every time they fall short of funds; so some permanent arrangement should be made. Several papers and magazines, I think, could be dispensed with, but a public meeting should be called before this is done. A printed list of books in the library would be very useful to the public. Hoping, however, the committee will soon be out of their difficulties, — I am, &c, E. B. E.
