The greatest interest 3s tak en in the race for the championship to-day- The ; attendance of the public was enormous. ; crowds lining the banks of the river along the whole of the course. The betting at the start was greatly in favor of Hanion, who was in splendid form. The two men went off with a good start, and in sniooth water, Hanion commencing with 28 and-Trickett with 34 strokes to the minute. They kept together fot half n mile, pulling evenly, hut afterwatuß Hanion took the lead, atui played with Tricketfc during the last three miles, winning the race easily by fully two lengths. The time of the race was 26min. 12sec. La^er. The weather to-day on the Thames was fine but cold, though there was no wind. Hanion threw ahead afc the Oabtree, where lie got clear away from Trickett, who was unable to recover his lost ground. Despite the great efforts which he made, Hanion increased his advantage at Hammersmith, and thenceforward drew away from Triokett whenever he approached him. The winner was enthusiastically cheered at the finish.
