OPUNAKE.
(from oue own correspondent.) Opunake, Friday.
At this little township business appears to be in a flourishing condition. Mr. J. Stevenson, the contractor for supplying the A.C. Force, has now a bakery in full working order, under the charge of Mr. C. Hickey. Messrs. Newman and Coffey have purchased Mr. Espagne's business, and are adding largely to their stock. Messrs. Middleton Bros, have made extensive improvements in their hotel, having erected several "new bed -rooms at the rear of the old house ; also private parlors, kitchen, pantry, scullery, &c. A range, niade by Mr. A'Courfc, of Hawera, has fceeo. fitted up in the kitcbm. The ofcfev portion of the house has also received a thorough overhaul, having been painted and papered throughout. Most of the bed-rooms have been re-furnished, and are remarkably clean and comfortable looking.
The township sections having now been all surveyed, the Opunake people hope to see them in the market next month.
The race between Reardon and Fagan r suited in an easy victory for the former. A good deal of money is said to have changed hands over the event, one man winning as much as £60, and another over £40. Several private matches are now on the tapis between the A.C's.
