(from our own correspondent.) Carlyle, Friday. At &c Hesidenb Magisiraie's Court yesterday, a man named Summers was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with hard labor, for giving a valueless cheque. The Grarrick Club have postponed the entertainment arranged for next Friday evening — after the race meeting. The Harmonic Society will give a miscellaneous concert in the Town Hall.

Messrs. Downes and Procter having at length, received the necessary- material, pile-driving has commenced on the new railway breastwork.

A cricket mateh — Waverley v. Patea — has heen arranged for to-morrow. The strangers will be entertained to luncheon.
