HAWERA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
Wednesday, 3rd November. A special meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday eveuing. Present — Rev. J. Tony (chairman), Messrs. Hobbs, McCutchan, McParJancl, -and Synie.l TEACHERS' SALARIES. A letter was read from Mr. A. A. Brown. Secretary to the Education Board, stating that no departure from the regular scale of schdol fees could be made in Miss Hills' case. EXLA&GEIIENT OF SCHOOL. A letter was also road from the Secretary of the Education Board, as follows: — " In connection with your application for increased school accommodation, I am instructed to inform you that 3 r our committee is authorised to prepare plans and specifications for an addition, not to exceed a cost of £50, for all purposes, and to state that this amount cannot, under any circumstances, be exceeded, as the Board has positively not the money. When your plans are ready, please submit them" to the building committee for approval." After some discussion, Mr. Hobbs proposed that Mr. Syrne should prepare plans and specifications for an extension of 15 feet to t!)e northern room. Mr. Syme did not think that space could be lined for the amount placed at the disposal of the committee. The Chairman said that it was more important that they should have the space : the lining could be done another time. If the committee were in office long enough, he felt disposed to make an appeal to the people before the winter set in. In Patea such a demand had been made, and was readily responded to. Mr. McFarland seconded the resolution, which was earned. This concluded ths business.
