She is expected here on Wednesday, " *nd sails for Wellington on Thursday. The manager of the Patea S.S. Company ■leaves for Wellington on the 28th, and will b» «mn.y two or three days. Arrangements -Will be made for delivery of orders as usual. COMMERCIAL. LONDON MARKETS. Mr. Freeman R. Jackson's London agents (Messrs. Johnson and Allsup) report as follows, under date London, 9th Septenu ber:— Wool. — The sales opened on 17th August, with considerable hesitation on the part of layers, the foreigners being especially cautious, but the home trade having operated pretty freely at slightly reduced values, a letter competition has ensued, and a hardening tendency has manifested itself, ' which, we think, will keep values at a pretty steady level for the rest of this Beason. The best competition is for sound merino wools of combing character, and such crossbreds as nearest approach the same description; but clothing and faulty parcels, as •well as the lower grades of croes-breds, are •comparatively neglected. Tallow. — Values during: the past month lave shown a further iiapywevaent of abont HW per cwt ; best mutton being »ow quoted »t 87s, and beef 34s 3d. We continue to have a. steady trade demand, but do not Anticipate much further advance, the Americans being able to keep the market well supplied at present values. Hides and Leather.— Both these articles •continue firm in value, all offered at recent sales finding ready purchasers. Quotations for hides bow range from sjd to s|d for \>esh Wvife&, wad HA to 6i& for light ox »nd cow. Leather ranges BtiW from lOd to lHd per lb, while basils are selling at from lOd to 17id for Melbourne, and from 11 id to 13$ d for those from New Zealand. Wheat. — We have to chronicle a fall of ttbout 5s per 4961bs during the past four •weeks. Australian is now quoted 45s to 465, and New Zealand 40s to 435, both ex "Store, "with every prospect of being still lower, it being evident that large supplies •will come on to this market during the winter from all the.producing countries. The weather has been extremely suitable for our English harvest, and alarge proportion of the crops may be sa ; d to be already secured in good condition, though, perhaps, not of first-class quality. Prdja ti»e Trade Circular, published by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, for transmission by the Frisco mail, and dated September 9, we quote the following extract :— " Wool.— Although the decline quoted at the outset was from id ito Id per lb, it must be understood that it *was most marked in the case of Cape descriptions. Australasian merino sorts, '•while distinctly selling in buyers' favor, received more attention than the coarse ■descriptions of cross-bred wools. Before the termination of the first week, it was manifest that the initial decline in nearly all Australasian merino combing wools, ftee from fault, had been lost, and ranch greater uniformity iv the biddings was exhibited. This favorable position has «ince been strengthened, and with a continuance of good harvest weather, and a generally improved tone throughout the various woollen manufacturing centres, there seems good reason for concluding thut, as the salen progress, the ground first lost may be not only recovered but that prices may still further tend in an upward •direction."
