Melbourne, Tuesday; - Three thousand pre-emptive leases, forfeited through arrears, are to be sold.

A. hundred-ounce nugget has been found at Temora.

The conversazione at the Exhibition last night was a complete success, 13,000 persons being present. The building was illuminated by electric lights. Many courts, including New Zealand, were closed.

The question of opening the Exhibition at night is being much discussed. Sir IL Sanford, the British Commissioner, has petitioned against it being done. '

The entries for the forthcoming races are very much below expectations. There will be a special performance of the Exhibition Cantata during tlie coming race week.

The Strauss band performed at the Exhibition on Thursday, and attracted a large audience. The attendance during the day was 10,000.

Sydney, Tuesday. A most destructive fire broke out at Wagga "Wagga at midnight on Friday, and completely destroyed the Masonifl Hall and several adjoining buildings. The damage is' estimated at which is fully insured. The fire raged for five hours.

Brisbane, T^nesdayA fire broke out here at 11 p.m. on. Saturday In the premises of Boland Ripe, in Queen-street. The flames spread to the adjoining- establishment, an ironmonj gers, and the fire wat only extinguished with great difficulty. The insurances include £850 hi the Eoyal Imperial and Colonial companies of New Zealand, be-" sides £5,250 in other offices.
