TERRIBLE DISASTER IN SOUTH

London, October 18. News has been received frozn South America of a terrible disaster in the Argentine Republic. A most severe snowstorm, lasting for three days, fell over an enormous tract of country, and caused the death of 700.000 cattle, 500,000 sheep, and 250,000 horses, No news has come to hand as to any loss of human life.

Mr. Parnell, M.P., made a speech at Longford yesterday, in the course of which he said the proposed prosecution by the Government of the leaders of .the Irish league would be useless.

The detached squadron, with H.M.S. Bacchante, has gone on a prolonged cruise.

A report is current at St. Petersburg, on the best authority, that owing to tbe Czar having contracted marriage with Princess Dolgororaski, his Majesty will appoint the Czarwitch co-regent, and will live in retirement at Livadia, in the Crimea.

Arrangements have been made for a match between Laycock and Hosmer* of Boston, on the 2nd November. On the 13th November Laycock rows Hawdon, of Newcastle, for £200 a side, over the champion course.
