Mr. Gane moved that the report be adopted. The selectors had had a good opportunity of accompanying the foreman of works and the commissioners, and he presumed that as they did not attend after due notice, they had every confidence in the Board. — The motion was carried.
The Chairman said he had written to Captain Wra}', to whose district the lower Ngaire belonged, but had not yet received an answer.
Mr. Gane said he had met Capt. Wray in Carlyle, and that gentleman told him he was in communication with the Government and the Taranaki Land Board, as part of the Ngaire belonged to the new land district, and a part to Tarnnalu.
Mr. Robson thought that, in the meantime, the engineer could get the specifications ready. He would move — That the engineer be instructed to prepare plans and lay out the works to be done on Finnerty road, culverts and filling on Dalziel, Boylan, and Stewart roads, and clearing a track, say 20 feet wide, between ths Boylan and Austin roads. A deviation would be required near Mr. Quin's land, on the Finnerty road, close to Mr Hawke's selection.
The Chairman said that, before any deviations were made, it would be well to ascertain if some arrangements could be made with the owners of the land. He asked Mr. Quin (who was present) whether he had any objection to the deviation ? Mr. Quin replied that he had not given the matter any consideration ; but he would not place any obstacle in the way of the Hawera Road Board or any other public body. All that he would ask would be to get an indemnity for Ms lose.
Mr. Gane seconded the resolution moved by Mr. Eobson, and it was carried.
It was resolved that the chairman should write to the Public Works Department, to ascertain whether the road from, the Boylan rond into Normanby was a gazetted public road; and also to urge upon the Minister of Public Works that proper approaches to crossings should 'be made where cuttings had been done for the railway works.
