EDUCATION BOARD.
At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Education Board, held on Wednesday at Wanganui, there were present — Mr. Watt (chairman), Sir W. Fox, Messrs. Sanson, Ross, Coutts, Snelson, Notman, McGregor, and Baker.
A resolution was passed censuring Mr. Malcolm, the schoolmaster at Stoney Creek, for severely "whipping a boy, and for subsequently endeavoring to keep the case out of court by paying D. McLoughlin's and the lawyers's fees, and buying off the father of the boy.
Letters were received from Normanby, in reference to school property received ; ttlßO, letter stating that the accommodation was too small for the number of children, and requesting that the school-hous be enlarged. Also asking what is the longest period the board will permit the lease of the school paddock. — The board resolved that the addition would be taken into consideration. The longest term for the lease was fixed at seven years.
It was also resolved to grant £1B to the Waverley committee, to fence in an extra reserve as a play-ground for the children.
