Wellington, Tuesday night. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to* day, Mr. T. K. McDonald, the auctioneer, for exercising his vocation by Selling goods after seven at night, was' fined £5. The magistrate intimated that, if the offence were repeated, the full penalty Would be inflicted.
An official telegram from the camp states that the Maori fencers, 88 in number, while proceeding to fence this morning', were stopped by Colonel Roberts, and warned that if they attempted to fence, they would be arrested, and tried as the others were. The natives retorted that they would not return until they had reached the point to which they had been sent. The constabulary were 'ordered to march forward, Snd quietly pressed the natives back for some "distance,- when the latter gave way and fled.
