TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

(From the Taranaki Herald.) Monday, 20th Septembee. return of land sold.

A return of land sold during the month of August was laid on the table, which showed that 25 town sections had been sold at an average of £45 9s per acre ; 2 suburban sections at £5 Is per acre ; and 23 ruaal sections on deferred payments, containing 1,603 acres. The total cash received was i>2sß, 5s lOd ; and the total value sold .£2,613, 10s 3d.

surveyor's report.

The following report by the Chief Surveyor was read : — " I have the honor to report for the information of the board that no surveys are now being carried on in the Taranaki Land District, the whole of the present staff being employed in the West Coast District. As it is probable that a large extent of superior forest land will soon be opened up for sale at the back L of the Waimate Plains, which will draw the land sales in that direction for some tune, I shall not recommend the survey of any more land north of Stratford for the present."

LAND SALE.

On the motion of Mr. Standish, seconded by Mr. Syme, licenses to occupy ordered to be issued to the purchasers at the recent sale in Hawera.

SWAMP LAND.

A notification was received from the Under- Secretary lor Crown Lands stating that block iO, Ngaire (chiefly swamp land), had been set apart for selection on deferred payments.

DEFAULTERS.

A letter was received from Messrs. J. and B. Gordon, stating their reasons for having failed to make the necessary improvements on their land. They stated that they had hired men to fell the bush last season, but the men left suddenly without giving any notice, and consequently the conditions of improvements had not been fulfilled.

The consideration of the matter was deferred until the commissioner received a communication from the Government re the powers vested in the board.

SECTION FORFEITED.

On the motion of Mr. Crompton, seconded by Mr. Syme, it was resolved, "That section 25, block 10, Ngaire, be declared forfeited, and that the commissioner be instructed to take the necessary steps to recover possession of the same."

APPLICATIONS FOB LAND.

The following applications for land on deferred payment were granted: — T. E. Crowhurst, section 9, block 6, Ngaire, containing 81 acres; John Hazzeff, section 33, block 6, Ngaire, 141 acres ; Joseph

Johnson, section 32, block 6, 191 acres ; W. Sangster, section 27, block 10, 50 acres ; W. Green, section 15, block 5, 65 acres ; A. C. Keightley, section 42, Mongamii, 78a.
