RIFLE COMPETITION.

Carlyle, Monday. On Saturday last a double rifle competition took place at the Patea range, the ©vents being a handicap contest for a fowling-piece, presented to the Patea corps by Mr. S. Taplin ; and a match between ten of Wanganui and ten of Patea, each company firing on its own range. The gun was won by Volunteer D. M. Harris (12 points handicap), who surprised the handicappers by making the net scor© of 46, which, with his handicap, ■brought his total- score up to 58, or only 2 under the "possible." A strong gale during the afternoon accounts for the small scores made by the representative ten, their average being 5 points under thakzaa&e' hy them &» ifo© Satuvflay jrceviotxß.
