SHOOTING MATCHES.

OFFICERS' CUP.

The first competition for the cup, subscribed for by the officers of the Hawera light Horse, took place on Saturday, a large number being on the ground. The ' cap has to be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals. .Sergeant G. T. Bayly was the highest scorer on Saturday, ~ Sergeant Button second, Trooper Flint third, and Trooper Rogers fourth. The target was 6x4 feet, and the bull's-eye Bxßinches; the ranges being 150, 200, and 800 yards. The weather, although fine, was not at all favorable for shooting, the wind being rather puffy. There was a sweepstakes of 2s. 6d. each, and the amount was divided as follows between the four highest scorers : — Bayly, £1 ; Stttton, 155. ; Flint, 10s. J Rogers, ss. The next' competition for the officers' dun will take place the second Saturday in October. It is probable that matches will soon be arranged with Waverley and Wanganui.
