THE TAKANAKI HARBOUR.
(from our own correspondent.) New Plymouth, Monday, 3 p.mV - - It is rumored .here that Mr. Murray's resolution, in reference to the stoppage of the harbor works, is carried ; that -the harbor works here are consequently 1»"be stopped ; and that- the Government will take over the loan, and spend it in making roads in the district.
THE RUMOB UNTRUE. New Plymouth, Tuesday, 11 a.m; The rumor that- 1 telegraphed to you yesterday, in reference to the stoppage of the hfl*b&r wo*ks, inwas oafc to be antawie. It created great excitement. A gentleman connected with the Survey Department is blamed for circulating the rumor, but I have good reason for saying that the suspicion is totally unwarranted. [ However, we begin to breathe more freely.
[The above telegrams were issued from; our office as " extras," on Monday even- 1 ing and Tuesday morning. Many people in Hawera discredited the rumor, but we published it as sent to us, knowing the great interest that has been taken by the" people of this district in the harbor in question.]
