HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Monday, August 23.
The Debtars and Creditors Bill was thrown out, the Impounding Bill was withdrawn, and the Special Progress Contracts Bill was read a second time.
The Telegraph Bill was amended, so as not to authorise a special wire.
The Beer Duty Bill was read a second time by 51 to 20, and the Property Assessment Act Amendment Bill was read a second time by 31 to 9.
The question of the Waimate Plains £2000 voucher was referred to the AuditorGeneral for investigation and action.
The Hon. Major Atkinson announced his intention to abandon the Local Rating Bill, and the Local Public Works Bill. Half the subsidies for the nine months would be paid to the local bodies, but the 20 per cent, of the land fund would be resumed by tZie Government.
The savings made in Committee on the Estimates, with the 10 per cent, reduction, represented a saving of per annum, or net for the present year.
Tuesday, August 24.
The Government declined to answer questions as to the steps which are being taken to bring Hiroki to justice.
Mr. Brandon introduced a Bill to enable a private company to construct a railway from Wellington to Porirua.
The Souse then went into Committee on the Beer Duty Bill.
