The Hon. Mr. Bryoe moved the second reading of the West Coast North Island Settlement Bill, which was genexally supported by Sir G. Grey, Mr. Ballance, Mr. Header Wood, and others, and condemned by Messrs. Macandrew, Pyke, Tawhai, and Moss.
The debate was adjourned, as Mr. Sheehan was too unwell to speak. The Telegraph Act Amendment Bill passed through committee. The Licensing Bill, Native Lands Frauds Prevention Bill, Native Succession Bill, Native Lands Contracts Validation Bill, Native Lands Stamp Duties Bill, and Miscellaneous Native Claims Bill, were all discharged from the Order Paper, there being no chance of passing them this session.
Friday, August 20.
In the House of Representatives, at the morning sitting, the Wellington Racing Club Bui was thrown out.
The Law Practitioners Act Amendment, and flit Caversliam Boroughs Incorporation Bills passed through all stages. In the afternoon an Imprest Supply Bfll tot .£200,000 passed through ail •tups. The Customs Duties Act Amendment Bill was introduced by the Hon. Major Atkinson.
The remainder of the Bitting was spent in Committee oil the Native Lands Court
