Wellington, Tuesday night.
A most destructive fire broke out in Maggie Baker's house, Wingfield street, at six o'clock this evening. A high wind was blowing, and the house was quickly wrapped in flames, which spread to the adjoining cottages. The house where the fire originated was occupied by several of the demi-monde class, who were at tea at the time of the outbreak, and it is supposed that the cause of the fire was through the bursting of a kerosene lamp iv the front room. The owner of the premises was insured for nearly .£IOOO, but it is stated that amount will not cover the loss. All clothing, furniture, and valuables were lost. The fire is still raging, and a fresh N.E. gale is blowing.
Dunedin, Tuesday night.
Two Chinamen have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the Kyeburn murder.
Blenheim, Tuesday night.
At the inqnest on Thomas O'Sullivan, who was drowned in Taylor's River, a verdict of " Found drowned " was re- ■ turned;'
