Further details of the engagement between Ayoub Khan's army and General Burrows' Brigade at Candahar, prove that the first account of the disaster was greatly exaggerated. General Burrows and chief officers, and his force, have reached the citadel in safety. No details have yet been received as to tbe extent of the loss sustained by the British.
London, July 29.
The disaster to the British troops at Candahar has c used a great sensation here, and it is stated that at a Cabinet Conncil, held yesterday, it was decided to despatch further troops to India as reinforcements for Afghanistan.
London, July 29. The Australians comraenc d a match against eighteen of the Alexandra Club at Crewe, in Cheshire. The Australians went in first, and scored 91 runs. The Home team then went in, and were disposed of for 37 runs. At the close of the day's play, the Australians, in their second innings, had lost one wicket for 16 runs.
Consols further declined to-day. Th y are now quoted at 97^.

The market for Adelaide and New Zealand breadstuff's continu s quiet, and without change in price.

The Orient Company's steamship Cotopaxi, homeward bound, arrived at Suez yesterday. The Orient Company's s.s. Orient has arrived at Plymouth. Th ship Loch Urr, from Auckland, has also arrived : she left April 9th. It is expected that an ultimatum will be sent to the Porte, summoning it to satisfy the claims of the Montenegrins, within three weeks.
A levy of all men capable of bearing arms is being made in Montenegro, with a view to enforce its claims.
It is stated that the Queen has sent a private note to the Sultan of Turkey, urging him to yield to the decision of the Berlin Conference, as required by the Great Powers.
A Rear-Admiral of the British Navy will be appointed to the command of the fleet, to be composed of vessels of the navies of the Em-opean Powers, which it has been decided to send as a demonstration against Turkey in favor of Montenegro.
In the House of Commons, a bill for compensating Irish tenants was read a third time, on a division, by a majority of C 6. The Irish members voted with the majority. The ex-Empress Eugenic has arrived at Plymouth from the Cape. Trickett, who arrived in England on Monday last by the steamship Orient, is going shortly to Scotland. He will commence his training in September. Constantinople, July 29.
The Porte, replying to the ultimatum of the Powers, promises to take steps to enforce a strict execution of the decision of the Berlin Conference, as regards Montenegro, within three weeks.
