[Reuter's Special to Star.]
Melbourne, Monday.
A Police Magistrate, named Hearne, whilst returning from church yesterday, was stopped by a gang of bushrangers, under the leadership of a man named Reilly, who threatened to shoot him unless a cheque was obtained. Upon refusing compliance, Mr. Hearne was incarcerated, with his family, in a deserted hut ; but one of them escaped, and gave the alarm to the poh'ce, who arrived and surrouuded the gang. The latter, however, refused to surrender, and threatened to shoot Hearne if the police attempted to arrest them. The gang at last was arrested, after waiting four hours, and without a shot being exchanged.
LATER. Melbourne, Tuesday; " . The elder Reilly, leader of the Harrow gnng of bushrangers, had a grudge against Mr. Henrne, aud this is said to be the cause of bailing him up.
