PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
(per united press association.)
Wellington, Tuesday night. In the Legislative Council to-day the Deceased Wife's Sister Marriage Bill was read a second time, on a division, by 16 to 12. In the House of Representatives, it was stated, in answer to the question as to what further proceedings would be taken regarding the i-300 illegally paid to Mr. Rees, that the matter had been again referred to the Public Accounts Committee. The no-confidence debate was resumed by Dr. Wallis. Mr. Gisborne followed, condemning the Government proposals, and also their administration of the Public Works scheme. But whatever mistakes were made in carrying it' out, great good had been done to the colony, which wa3 still sound at heart. Mr. Murray spoke in support of the Property Tax, which he considered a fair and just one to impose. The debate is still proceeding. The Ministry will probably have a majority of at least a dozen when .the division takes place. " The debate is likely to last- another week, or perhaps longer. : .
