CARLYLE.
(from our own correspondent.)
Carlyle, Friday. A number ot gentlemen forming the Patea Garrick Club met last evening, for the purpose of appointing office-bearers. Mr. E. Houghton was elected president ; Mr. Sherwood, stage-manager ; Mr. A. Hay-wood, treasurer; and Mr. H. Chadwick, secretary. A number of others were added to the committee. Prior to fixing on a play, or assigning parts, a meeting will take place to test the dramatic powers ol the members of the club individually.
A committee formed at the recent public meeting for the purpose of preparing and forwarding a petition to Major Atkinson, to be laid before the House, met last evening. It was decided that the petition be printed, and copies forwarded to various members of the House, to insure its being brought forward at an early date. In a previous letter I briefly stated the cont nts of the petition, namely, separate county Patea representation, the creation of Patea township into a municipality and port of entry, and the speedy settlement of the Waimate Plains.
