EARLY CLOSING ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the employe's in the various stores iv Hawera was held on Wednesday evening, in- Mr. Owen's Eguiont Hotel. Mr. Malcolm Campbell was voted to the chair, and stated the object for which the meeting had been called.

Mr. Owen explained the result of his interview with the different empoyers, stating that all had consented to close their shops.

Mr. Sheat proposed, and Mr, Kirk seconded, " That those present form themselves into an association, to be called ' The Hawera Early Closing Association.' " — Carried.

Mr. Kirk proposed, and Mr. Brown seconded, "That Mr. M. Campbell be elected secretary and treasurer of the association." — Carried.

Mr. Owen proposed, and Mr. Gapper seconded, " That an entrance fee of 55., and Is. per month, be paid by each member, to defray necessary expenses." — Carried.

Mr. Kirk proposed, and Mr. Owen seconded, ," That bills be printed, setting forth the names of those employers who have agreed to close their establishments at seven o'clock, and that an advertisement be inserted va. the Sta.r fox one month to the same effect." — Carried.

Mr. Kirk proposed, and Mr. Sheat seconded, " That the members of the association meet the second Monday in every month, five to torm a quorum." — Carried.

A vote of thanks to the chairman and the Star representative brought the meeting to a close.
