MR. FKEEMAN R. JACKSON'S LONDON AGENTS' liJBPOET.

Via San Francisco.

IS, Finsbury Circus, London, April 22nd, 18S0. The inward San Francisco mail, delivered here on the 12th April, brought us dates from Sydney to 26th February, and Wellington and Christchurch to 28th idem, but dates to 2nd March were received on loth instant from Sydney via Brindisi. Wool. — l'he second series of sales opened on 20th instant, the list of arrivals in time having been closed on previous day, when the total had reached 408,000 bales, of •which, however, 30,000 bales had already been taken off the market, leaving 378,000 for disposal. Notwithstanding the enorxno'is quantity, a rise in values is quoted of about 1 0 per cent on average, but crossbred wools benefit the least, if indeed they are any better, and these have probably now reached their culminating point. At present, consumers and staplers are stated to be almost bare of stock, and until they have to some extent satisfied their wants, wo look for a continuance of the present eager competition ; it remains, however, we think, to be seen whether the present high level of values can be maintained to the close of this series with the present large available supplies. The third series is expected to be opened on 17th August. Tallow.— This article continues to fall in value, and is now quite 3s lower than four weeks ago — preseut highest quotations being 34s for mutton, and 32s 6d for beef. At 'nst sale there was, perhaps, rather more in juiry for inferior qualities, which we h >pc may be a prelude to a revival in the in irket which has so far certainly disappi nted our expectations. Values are now " wi ,hin 6d of last year's lowest point. Elides and Leather. — The hide market h ■■* been particularly steady with a good a itive trade demand, which augurs favorably for the future. We are glad to note a revival in this trade from Australia, which ■will certainly be more welcome to our English tanners than large imports of leather. At last sales (on Bth April) Sydney heavies sold at from s^d to s|d per lb, lights and cows at from 4jd to 5-£ d. Melbourne hides were about $<l lower than these prices, but some really good hides from New Zealand realised the Sydney values. Leather was dull of sale on 9th April, at a reduction of id per lb. values ranging from 10£ dto llfd per lb. Basils are without change, at from 9d to 17Jd per lb according to quality. Another hide and leather sale is progressing to-day and to-morrow. Kauri Gum. — The market is quiet at the fall in prices mentioned in our last, and only small coles have been made ; stocks are, however, comparatively light, favoring the prospect of steady values in the future. Wheat. — We have to chronicle a fall of 3s to 48 per qr, with every probability of much lower values as the summer approaches. Australian and New Zealand ■wheat has, so far perhaps, suffered the least, but as the new harvest produce begins to arrive in quantity, it must give way ■with the others. The present quotation of 54s for best quality is therefore probably delusive ; of Australian flour there is now a considerable stock, and the present value is 40a per 280 lbs ex store. The weather has been extremely seasonable, the alternations of rain and sunshine being all that could be desired, while the night frosts have only done damage in very exposed places. Johnson an» Ai^bvp.
