This event, which was looked forward to as the principal one of the day, caused great excitement. The race was a mile handicap, the course being about half a mile round. Six horses entered, and an excellent start was made at two o'clock ; but when coming round .the second time, some horses, which were loose, galloped right across Rose, driving
her off the course, and before her rider could get on the course again, she was 50 yards in the rear of Leita. Bose, however, made a grand effort to come in first, and was only about four yards in the rear of Leita when the winning-post was reached, Eclipse being third.
