PROSSER, Poundkeeper. Hawera, April 27, 1880. i^PINIONS OF THE PRESS. We have received the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, which is a well printed and ably edited paper, and we cordially wish the proprietors every success in their somewhat venturesome enterprise. — Taranaki Herald. We have received the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, published on Saturday, 10th April. It is very well got up, and promises to pursue an independent course as regards politics, and to furnish its readers with home and colonial telegraphic information. We cordially wish our contemporary success. — Taranaki News. The first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, a bi-weekly newspaper, was published on Saturday, 10th April, and fully redeems the promises made by the proprietors in their preliminary announcement. It is well printed, has a fair show of advertisements, plenty of reading matter, and is well edited. The Star will be independent in politics, but " can conscientiously support the present Ministry, so long as they continue to pursue the same line of action that they have hitherto done." We trust our contemporary will meet with a large share of public patronage. — Wanganui Chronicle. We have received the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star. The new paper is well printed and well compiled. We wish our young contemporary a prosperous career. — Wanganui Herald. The first number of the Hawera Star has reached us. It is very creditably got up, and judging Iroin its general appearance, Messrs. Galvin and Innes are determined to deserve the support we hope they will receive. — Manawatu Herald. We have received the first number of the new publication brough out by Messrs Galvin & Co. for the delectation of the settlers in Hawera and the surrounding district. The paper is well got up and well printed, and contains a large quantity of local, telegraphic, and readable matter, which should go far to satisfy the cravings of its supporters. . . . We wish the new venture every success in the forthcoming contest for supremacy with its (as yet) unborn rival. — Rangitikei Advocate. We have received the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, and congratulate the proprietors on its appearance. The paper bears every mark of being conducted with energy and ability, and if the promoters continue on the lines they have marked out for themselves, it will not be their fault if they do not succeed. With reference to politics, we learn that the new paper intends to pursue an independent course, and will not pledge itself to give a thick-and-thin support to any Government. It approves, however, the policy of the present Ministry, and intimates that they will have its support so long as they continue to pursue the same line of action that they have hitherto done. — Wellington Evening Post. The first issue of the Hawera and Normanby Starts before us. It is a very creditable "addition to newspaper literature. We wish Messrs. Galvin and Co., the enterprising proprietors, every success. — Wellington Evening Chronicle. The first copy of the Hawera and Normanby Star is to hand. The proprietors, Messrs. Galvin and Innes, have produced a very creditable paper, and they promise that the next issue shall be even better. . . . We shall look to the Star as a reliable authority on matters concerning the Waimate Plains. — New Zealand Times. We have received the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, a paper just started by Messrs. Galvin and Innes, and published at Hawera. The paper is well got up, and judging from the advertisement columns it appears to have the good will of the settlers. — Waikato Times. ~W& are in receipt of the first number of the Hawera and Normanby Star, issued by Messrs. Galvin^and Innes,, two px'actical men hailing from Wellington. The business public of Hawera are evidently in earnest in their support to th c pioneer journal, if we are to judge from the satisfactory appearance of the advertising columns. The success or failure of a newspaper in Hawera, as in every other place, will depend on the support accorded by the public, and from what we know of the proprietors, we are confident that no effort will be spared on their part to win this support. — Ashburton 1 Guardian.
