WRECK OF THE CALYPSO.
London, April 15. The ship Calypso, bound from-\Port Chalmers to London, was entering the Thames yesterday, when she collided with another vessel, and sunk. The crew and passengers were saved. Later. The ship Calypso, which sunk in the Channel yesterday, collided with the General Steam Navigation Company's steamship Hawk, near Margate. The Hawk proceeded on her voyage, and the extent of the injuries she received are therefore unknown. It is stated that the Hawk's lights were not burning at the time of the collision.
[per united press association.] Bunedin, Friday night. A cablegram received to-day announces that the ship Calypso, which left for London on the 20th January, was run down in the Channel. All hands were saved. The insurances effected in the colony are as follows : — Standard, ,£3OOO ; Union, ,£3000; Victoria, £5000; South British, £4000; Colonial, ,£2000; National, .£2000; Batavia, £5000; Marine, £16,000; United, £112 ; Globe, £2000 ; total, £42,112. The cargo is valued at £87,000. The balance is insured in England.
