New Telephones

* DELAY IN INSTALLATION The Rt. Hon. Walter Nash, M.P. for Hutt, discussing the question of the installation of the new automatic exchange which it is plannee to introduce for the Petone am. Lower Hutt area, stated that Vhilsi it was originally contemplated tha the installation would be completed this year, it is now unlikely that it would be available for use until early in July.

“Action is being taken,” said Mr. Nash, “to circularise the existing subscribers and waiting applicants about the type of senvice available on the new exchange. All existing subscribers will be diverted to the new exchange from its inception and it is hoped to complete the connection of all applicants for business service prioi to the opening date. On account of .the large amount of work involved, it will not be possible ic have all residential applicants connected prior to the opening. These will be joined up progressively in the months that follow.

“The Hon. F. ITackett, Post-master-General, advises me that the work lias a very high priority and no avoidable delay will occur in connecting waiting applicants.’
