Snooker Tournament
HUTT VALLEY R.S.A. Over the past two weeks a large crowd of Hutt Valley ex-servicemen have gathered in their clubrooms to see the first round of a snooker tournament conclude. So far to date the highest break has been made by “Happy” Swain. The finals will be played on December 1.
Results of First Round. —N. Glentwortli lost to N. Bevan, 71-41; G. Glay beat J. Tomlinson, 74-19; Whitehead lost'to F. Weir, 67-57; H. Swain beat E. Walsh, 65-15; A. Cottrell beat Chas. Wilson, 44-41; J. Maddock beat P. Jennings, 45-24; N. Boyce beat V. Bunning, 89-44; “Sunshine” McGurk beat A. Alexander, 42-33; J. Stewart lost to J. Bradley, 42-29; Ted Taurima lost to Kipper McGrath, 44-33; F. Best lost to Colbourn, 72-70; H. Porter, lost to Andrews, 98-96; M. Elson lost to R. Smith, 50-32; J. Smith lost to H. Alexander, 8 6-31; Ted King beat R. Staples, 54-47; B. Scott beat J. Taylor, 91-49. First Round of Doubles. —Scott and McGurk lost to J. Smith and Cottrell, 72-48; Staples and Porter teat Bevan and Taurima, 98-97; H. Alexander and R. Smith lost to Stewart and Elson, 68-53; Whitehead and Maddock lost to Glentworth and Best, 80-7 8; Bradley and King beat Clay and Wilson, 54-46; Swain and Tomlinson, a bye. Second Round Single Draw. — Bevan plays Clay, Weil- plays Swain, Cottrell plays Maddock, Boyce plays McGurk, Bradley plays McGrath, Colbourn plays Andrews ,R. Smith plays H.
