Shortage of Gas
COMPLAINT BY WOMEN
The shortage of gas is still causing much inconvenience to housewives. Recently the following letter was sent to the Lower Hutt and Petone Gas Board by the Hutt Valley Women’s Citizen Guild:
“The supply of gas was improved when the rationing was again introduced. and we had hoped that this would be maintained, but much dissatisfaction is still expressed by members of the Guild. Not even sufficient gas was available to cook meals at the promised time, viz.,— 11.30 a.m.—and it was particularly bad on Saturday morning, June 12. Food is being wasted through not being properly cooked. Our members appreciate the difficulty you are having, but surely something could be done to alleviate the strain to which housewives are subjected at present.” The Gas Board replied that it is endeavouring to maintain a reasonable supply of gas until the new carbonising plant is finished, which should be towards the end of the year. In the meantime it will attend to individual complaints which are forwarded to the office.
