Australian Job
FORMER HUTT RESIDENT Word has been received of the appointment of Miss Amy B. Toomath to the position of housekeeper to the Maryborough Base Hospital, Queensland. Miss Toomath, wno, prior to her departure for Australia on holiday in March, was one of the matrons at the Y.W.C.A. hostel at Woburn, Lower Hutt, is used to provisioning for “big families.” Her particular job at the- Woburn Hostel was the supervising of the catering and rationing for an establishment oj 300-400 women and girls. One of the qualifications required in the Australian appointment was the knowledge of nursing. Miss Toomath is a fully qualified midwifery sister.
Since leaving New Zealand Miss Toomath has travelled about 6000 miles, most of it by air. Her letters describing the “sugar country” ol Queensland and the beauties of jtlie Great Barrier Reef, particularly Green Island in the neighbourhood of Cairns have been full of interest.
