TAITA DISABILITIES
(To the Editor.)
Sir,; —It is interesting to observe that at recent public meetings held ‘within the Taita State housing area wholesale criticism is being levelled at the Labour Government for its failure to provide a suitable public town hall and other- public amenities within this area, which is fast reaching the proportions of a fair-sized town and is somewhat isolated from other similar alternative amenities. Taita has a very poor and totally inadequate telephone service, no ambulance service, no local taxi' stand, and no public conveniences nor recreation areas.
In addition, the peak hour ■ bus services are -1 so poorly organised that in Lower Hutt Taita residents are debarred from travelling in Taita buses due to the buses being overloaded with intermediate passengers, whilst Park Avenue and Cemetery Road buses invariably leave Lower Hutt with half-load capacities of passengers.
Prospective State tenants would be well advised to decline State houses id the Taita area. In addition mafy I add that there is no street lighting in the Taita area. The existing discontent does not tend to promote confidence in the Government’s State housing planning policy, neither does -it augur too well for the next general election. —I am, etc., 'V*: ' AJAX.
