New Settlers’ Welfare

BUTT VALLEY COMMITTEE At - the monthly meeting of the Hutt Valley New Lettlers’ Welfare Committee, the attendance was good, most organisations being represented. It has long been realised that the successful absorption of new settlers into the community can only be fully achieved through the lengthy discussion centred around the serious shortage of accommodation in the Hutt Valley. Several cases of extreme hardship were mentioned. The Committee includes Mr. K. K. Watts, Chairman (Wellington Manufacturers’ and Employers’ Organisations), Mr. - E. P. Hay, Mayor of Lower Hutt (Lower Hutt City Council), Mr. A. McFarlane, Mayor of Petone (Petone Borough Council), Mr. G. Pitkethley, Hurt Valley Y.M.C.A., Miss C. Macdonald, Hutt Valley Y.W.C.A., Mrs. V. A. Draper, Hutt Valley Federation of Women’s Institutes, Mr. S. J. Johnston, Hutt Valley Returned Services Association, Rev. E. Goring, Hutt Valley Ministers’ Fraternal, Rev. Father Summers, Hutt Valley Catholic Interests, Mr. P. E.' Warner, Trades and Labour Council, Mrs. Trades and Labour Council, Mr. Edmonds, Hutt Valley Younger Set. , It will thus be seen that organisations and representatives of prominence are working on the Committee, assisting in this important task, and the support of all Hutt Valley residents is strongly urged.
