Mr. E. F. Rothwell has returned from a holiday visit to the Marlborough Sounds, much benefited in health.

Mr. Gordon Hooper, formerly of the Waiwhetu School staff and now of Pahiatua, has been appointed adjudicator of the elocution sections at the Cambridge Competitions, to be held in September.

Mr. W. Appleton, Mayor of Wellington, and Mrs. Appleton, left by the Port Wellington last week for the United Kingdom. They expect to be away from three to four months.

Fireman J. May, of the Petone Fire Brigade, who has completed 41 years’ service, retired on May 31, and will be tendered a social evening and presentation by the Brigade on July 7.
