Hutt Music Society

PIANO GROUP The Piano Group of the Hutt Valley Music Society has a very interesting season mapped out. In July it will receive a visit from the Piano Group of the Wellington Branch of the British Music Society. In August Mr. Frederick Page, lecturer at Victoria College University, will give a talk and demonstration on the works of Bach. French and Russian Song *The Song Group met in the Red Cross Hp.ll for a programme of music by French and Russian composers. Songs covering a wide field in the development of both schools were presented by Audrea Beddie, Patsy Boyd, Margaret Harvey, Marion MeMaster, Jean Fearon, Lois Davys, Dawn Harris, and John Withers. They were accompanied by Dorothy Webb, Valerie Bibby, Leone Pascoe, Dawn Harris and Lionel Harris. Before each section of the programme a brief outline of the history of French and Russian song was given by the convenors, Dawn Harris and Lois liavys respectively. The next meeting will be devoted to excerpts from opera. , Members’ Evening The first members’ evening of the season will be held in Chilton St. James Hall on Wednesday, June 16. The programme will be given by junior members of the Plano, Song, and Instrumental Groups, the performers being Mary Sayers, Ruth Surtees, Patricia Boyd, Shirley and Noeline Lister, Sylvia Cartwright, Mary Byrne, Allison and Nonnette Christophers, Peggy Bevan, Leone Pascoe and Keith Green. A short talk on “Music and Personality” will be given by Mr. Stanley Oliver. Gramophone Group The Gramophone Group has embarked on what promises to be a very successful season. Many new members have joined and much enthusiasm is shown. The group will study the Columbia History of Music from the time of Bach until the present day. The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 28. More new members would be welcomed. Those interested should communicate with Mrs. J. Williams, Lower Hutt Librarain.
