* WELCOME TO LOWER HUTT NORTH ISLAND DELEGATES Tho North Island conference of Scoutmasters, women Cubmasters, and Rovers, held at Lower Hutt during the week-end, was attended by about 250 Scouters, and was a great success. The Mayor, Mr. E. P. Hay, who was introduced by the Hutt Valley and Bays County Commissioner, Mr. J. E. F. Vogel, opened the conference in the Horticultural, Hall, paying tribute to the Boy Scout movement and those who gave their time to the training of the boys., , Mr. T. L. Seddon, Dominion Chief Commissioner, spoke of the possibilities of the conference and the value of co-operation. Mr. G. L. Giesen, county president, welcomed the delegates. ■ Tho conference considered that the standard of training of Scoutmasters shonld'be'improved. One of the objects of Scouting, it was stated, was to All in the few gaps in tho New Zealand education system. Dance, Service,, Demonstrations On Saturday night a pleasant dance was held in the Waterloo School Hall. On Sunday the Scouters attended a service in the grounds of the County Commissioner’s home in Woburn Road, followed by a demonstration of mountain work by Hutt County senior Scouts and demonstrations of senior Scout activities such as dry fly fishing, horse riding, ski-ing, mountaineering, deer stalking and culling. The Scouters then returned to the Horticultural Hall for further discussions. On Monday the Dominion Chief Commissioner, Mr. Seddon, and the County Commissioner. Mr. J. E. F. Vogel, gave addresses in the morning. These were followed by a screening of films of the Paris Jamboree.
