The Hutt News Wednesday, April 23, 1947 MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT
The appointment of Mr. j. W • Andrews, Mayer of Lower I hitt. as a member of the newly-formed Local Government Commission will he generally approved. It is re -ionised that few men in New Zealand have as wide a knowledge ot local body affairs as Mr. Andrews. His work as president of the New Zealand Municipal Association led that representative body to recommend him for his new appointment, and his activities on many other local bodies also illustrate his fitness for die position. His prof omul knowledge of public affairs should make him a tower of strength to the new Commission. Mr. Andrews' appointment will mean his resignation from the Mayoralty of Lower Hun. a portion which be h:is held for thirteen vears. This will be regretted. f«.r it is generally recognised that he has played an important part in the transition of Lower Him from a comparatively small town to the fifth cuv of Xew Zealand, with all the problems involved in such rapid growth. He has worked hard for the community, and even those who have not sometimes agreed with his policy will agree that his efforts have always been aimed at bettering conditions as he saw them. Residents of Lower ilutt. and the Hint Valley generally, will join in thanking Mr. Andrews for past services, and wish him success in the wider sphere to which he has been called. In those thanks and good wishes, the Mayoress will be associated, for the community realiseshow well Mrs. Andrews has hacked the work of her husband.
