POWER BOARD'S DONATION
(To the Editor) Sir, —I was surprised to hear that the Mult Valley- Electric Power Board has made a donation of £IOO to the Wellington Cathedral Fund. Surely if il has money to spare the Board's duty is to use it for the benefit of power consumers. The Cathedral may he worthy of support, though personally 1 think the money would he much better spent in providing small churches in centres of population, say the new housing areas, rather than in city areas where the present, churches are far from tilled and which are rapidly losing their Sunday population owing to people making their homes in the suburbs. But apart from the merits or demerits of the Cathedral appeal I am sure that, many people will agree witli me in thinking that the Power Board, whatever its members may thinlc and do as private individuals, should not as a Board make a clonatioii to such a cause. Where is the thing going to end? There are many worthy objects—some of them, perhaps, even more worthy of assistance from local bodies than (he Cathedra) —in need of help.—l am, etc., WM. TOOMATH.
