SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY It was 60 years on Monday since the great Tarawera eruption. Mr. VV. B, Nicholson, of Lower Hutt, who was living at Opotiki, 4 7 miles from Tarawera, at the time, told the thrilling story over the air on Monday night. The eruption started at 1 a.m., and for many miles around people had an awe-inspiring experience, with thunder, lightning and weird rumblings. Ash covered everything inches deep.
