Club held a picnic, in Hutt Park on Sunday. Favoured by a beautifully fine day there was a large attendance and a very happy time was spent. During the day addresses were given by Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Finance, and Mr. H. E. Combs, M.P.
Old Settlers' Rally. At a successful rally conducted in Wellington on* Anniversary Day by the Early Settlers and Historical Association, some interesting reminiscences were given by Mr. W. Toomath, of Lower Hutt.
Membership of Over 100. .The membership of the Hutt Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce and Industry has reached over 100 in a few months. Over 20,000 State Houses. Up to the end of last year, 20,034 rental houses had been constructed by the Housing Department, said Mr E. P. Meachen, Minister for Housing, at Whangarei. In addition 3206 houses were under construction and contracts had been let for many others. The Department had purchased land for 44,971 houses.
Changes in School Attendance. Owing to the decrease in the number of pupils the Petone West School went down a grade last year, while the Epuni School, with increased attendances, rose in status. ** The position was met by the transfer of four teachers from Petone AVest to Epuni. ......,-.,..-
