Help for Mothers
LOWER HUTT HAPPINESS CLUB
QUEEN CARNIVAL CAMPAIGN.
A Queen Carnival has been launch ed by the Happiness Club with the object of raising funds for the establishment of a "Transit House" in Wellington, which will provide temporary accommodation for children whose mothers may be taken ill, and which" will be staffed by mem bers of the club. From "Transit House" the children will go into private homes, over 60 people having already offered to take in such children until the mothers recovered.
Five candidates have entered the canival, the Lower Hutt entrant being Miss Daphne Cox. There is also a Petone candidate.
The Lower Hutt Happiness Club, of which Mrs Garner is president, and Mrs A. B. Cox secretary, is doing its utmost to raise funds for the worthy cause. A shopping day will be run every Friday at the Patriotic Hut in Andrews Avenue, and an appeal Will be made to business men and others for assistance. A "Transit House" is already functioning in Auckland and is proving a great boon to families. Another organisation that is doing splendid work for harassed parents is the Hospital Auxiliary, which, under the presidency of the Mayoress (Mrs. J. W. Andrews), arranges for help for familias while a mother is in hospital.
