WATER SHORTAGE

MAYOR'S APPEAL At the recent meeting of the Lower Hutt City Council difficulties in connection with the City's water supply were referred to by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews) who made the following statement: — "Owing to tlxe delay in completion of our Waterworks Loan Scheme due to war conditions, it is not expected that the new Naenae Reservoir will be in service until 194(5. In the meantime residents in certain areas of the City, particularly those in the higher levels, suffer through low water pressure at times of heavy drawoff. Particularly is this the case when gardens are dry and heavy hosing is indulged in. I make this appeal to all those who find it necessary to hose their gardens, that they should consider those of their fellow citizens who may possibly be deprived of water should the general hosing be heavy, and abstain from hosing as much as possible. The Council is doing everything possible to Improve the position, and asks for this co-operation from all hose users for the next • twelve months."
