Tho 1-lutt Valley Electric Power i:ourd at its meeting last week un uiiiiiouuly approvd alterations in its r.uus schedule estimated to reduce charges to local bodies on street lighting by £750; to consumers using tho availability rate by £M2O; to consumers using the commercial rate by £1160, and to consumers who pay on the K.V.A. rate by £5700, a total of £13,930 per year. The report stated that the adustment discount had been largely adhered to; this system, being at the pleasure of the board, allowed inc/ases or decreases to be made as= I f nances or the will of the board might dictate. The leport was not adopted without considerable debate, especially as to whether the presnt time, which was reco!;':i ; red as abnormal, was the time to reduce charges because in the pf'.-i-war period the board would haw to meet heavy expenditure. Some mfr.iLen: objected to reductions on the M'tuijd that they would tend to increase the use ot' current which was in short supply.
