"Scarlet fever-is still very bad," said the Health Inspector (Mr. J. Fletcher), at Monday's City Council meeting. The total number of infectious diseases reported for the month was (Hi; of these <55 were "scarlet fever, <>4 sent to hospital and the other nursed at home; one case of cerebro-spinal meningitis was sent to j hospital.
The decline in the incidence of scarlet fever which was apparent during the month of June, has not, unfortunately, been sustained during July. The 05 cases notified were spread fairly evenly over the whole month. Ten cases were adults! three were students attending second ary schools; 44 were children attending primary schools; three were children attending kindergarten schools and five were children under school age. In reply to a question Mr. Fletcher said he did not consider the closing of the schools would make any improvement in the position.
