Plunket Society

ANNUAL MEETING

Mrs. J. W. Andrews presided at the 21st. annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Branch of the Plunket Society held recently.

The annual report, which was adopted, stated that the nurses had made 4128 visits to homes; visits to the rooms were 15,917 adults, 13,683 babies, 15-23 older children. Total new babies 5 95, breast-fed 478, complemented 34, artificially l'ed 83. Eighty-four per cent of the babies born in Lower Hutt have been under Plunket supervision.

The Waiwhetu Sub-Branch reported 4 962 adult visits to rooms, | 4657 babies, 4.10 older children, new cases for the year 204, breastfed 166, mixed feeding .10, artificially fed 28, visits to homes 1416. The resignation of Mrs. J. W. Andrews from the position of president was received with sincere regret. A motion of appreciation of Mrs. Andrews's services to the society for many years was recorded ,on the motion of Mrs. Hooson and Mrs. Tosswill, who paid sincere tribute to her work and spoke •of the happy relations which had always exkuted between the president and members of the committee.

Mrs. H. B. Turbott was unanimously . elected to the position of president. Vice-presidents, ftlesdames A. Tosswill, W. Nash, W. F._ Graham; secretary, Mrs. E. Cameron; treasurer, Mrs. E. C. Craighead. Mrs. G. B. Williams was added to the committee, all of whom were re-elected. The speaker for the evening was Miss Friss, a missionary from Syria, who gave a most interesting talk on types and contrasts of Syrian life. She spoke of the influence of Moslem life on women and children.
