H.V. High School
At the monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Hutt Valley High School, held on Thursday, the Principal, Mr. J. N. Millard, reported that the school roll was the highest in the history of the school. On March Ist there were 300 boys and 230 girls on the roll as against 267 boys and 223 girls at the corresponding period last year. Practically all the increase is made up of boys. This, said Mr. Millard, tends to show that most parents are not allowing the lure of present high wages to influence them in mapping out their sons' futures.
The Board recorded with regret ,the death of R. A. Newman who was killed in a bombing raid over Germany and of Jack Croudis, killed in action, both old pupils of the School. They also conveyed their congratulations to Wing Commander Fat Jameson, D.F.C. and bar, on being awarded the D.5.0., and also to his wife (nee Hilda Webster, late of the Hutt Valley High School) on the birth of a son.
